PINEAU CHARENTAISE (Charente alcohol beverage)


Pineau charentaise is very famous in France, but not known abroad. People know more its brother, COGNAC. It is in fact,  the blend of COGNAC and unfermented fresh grape juice. It is an aperitif drink with 17% alcohol, for comparison, the wine is only about 12% alcohol.

HISTORY OF PINEAU

At the end of 15th century, a winemaker, accidentally put some grape juice inside a barrel that he tought was empty but in fact contained EAU-DE-VIE which is uncolor brandy that is produced by means of fermentation and double distillation. So this mixture was keep and few years after, he opened the barrel and found this famous sweet alcoholic beverage.
